Remember when Havaianas visited Dumaguete City for Havaianas Playback last February 25, 2012? It turns out the event was more fun than expected!
Havaianas, in cooperation with the Siliman University Student Government and Council of Student Organizations, gathered 12 student organizations at the Siliman University West Quadrangle for Havaianas Playback – a day of fun and camaraderie. The best rubber flip flop in the world turned back time for the day with a retrospective on well-loved Filipino street games.
Havaianas, now on their 50th year (wow – golden!), decided to commemorate the event with unadulterated fun and fair play that brought back big smiles in the games of bato lata, Chinese garter, patintero, sipa, agawan base, lakad bunot, tumbang preso, and piko.
The day kicked off with the Parade of Colors and a cheering competition between all the participating groups. School organizations like Sigma Rho, Medical Technology, Zambo Sur Sillimanites, AgusanSillimanites, Pan Hellenic Society, Ang Sandigan, Tau Gamma Phi, Omicronian Society, Kadugong Bol-anon (KADBOL), Philippine Institute of Cumputer Engineering Students (PHICES), Renaissance Youth Leaders Forum (RYLF), and College of Education Student Organization (CESO) were all in attendance . With the help of the Cebu City Sports Commissioners, these beloved childhood games proved to be no child’s play with serious cash prizes for the winning teams:
Sigma Rho, champion of the Havaianas Playback 2012 Invitational, took home a trophy and P20, 000 in cash; RYLF placed 1st runner up taking home a trophy and P10, 000. Tau Gamma came in as 2nd runner up with a trophy and P5, 000 in cash.
Plaques and bragging rights went out to special teams like Agusan Sillimanites for the special award of Happy Squad, as the team with the happiest and loudest cheer and chant. The Most Loved Team Award went to Ang Sandigan for the team with the most active fans while the Omircronian Society feted the Early Birds Award for the first to complete registration.
Havaianas Playback is in its 3rd year since it launched in 2008 at Bonifacio High Street, Metro Manila. Then in August 2010, it was a collegiate inter-organization invitational participated in by schools such as Ateneo De Manila University, U&AP, U.P. Diliman, and De La Salle University.
