If our other friends have Dooney&Burke and Dolce&Gabbana, Cebu fashion has its very own Chris&Berns. With the onset of bazaars in Cebu besieging the city like a Godzilla in gladiator heels, two women yielded to the fashionista’s call for contributing to boutiques in Cebu that caters to women ages 14 to 60 years old. A woman cannot have enough fashion stores just like we cannot get enough of them shoes!
Conceptualized by Christine “Tessa” Omega and Bernadette “Adette” Yu, Chris&Berns (you now know how the store’s name came about), markets to women of all sizes and styles from casual wear, corporate and evening wear plus accessories, bags and swimwear.
Bernadette Yu said, “My friend Tessa and I had the urge to go into retail and create our own brand of ready to wear clothing. We wanted to create affordable yet one-of-a kind quality clothing for women- something that both we ourselves would patron if we were customers. Chris&Berns became officially available to the public on October of 2007, when we opened our first outlet in Chains, Paseo Arcenas. A year later, we moved to a bigger space in Maze, Ayala CenterCebu.”
The onset that came up last October 2007 started at this mini empire that has already three sewers who work non-stop to produce new styles each week. They worked with practically every kind of fabric including chiffons, linens, and jerseys. “We usually let the fabric dictate the style and design it wants to be,” Bernadette or “Adette” said. “For instance, jerseys are great for draping, while linens and twills are ideal for a more tailored cut. The right fabric can make all the difference. We like to keep our garments tasteful, but still sexy…still leaving room to the imagination. Keeping a certain balance and proportion in each piece we create.”
You can totally see Chris and Bern’s style as they each choose pieces and fabric that reflect their sparkling selves. I would like to patron these faves! 🙂
Their clothing is priced from 400 to 1,200 and when I looked at their sizing chart, I know that they have more than enough for all body types. As you can see from the photos posted from their site, it seems like the clothes are flexible and can certainly fit anyone. You would just have to indicate your size preference, of course, and Bernadette will see to it that the item you wanted is in your size. Judging from the items marked SOLD OUT at their multiply site, we may just have to wait for the new batches to fill those slots or miss out a lot!
Chris and Berns would like to thank their family and friends who helped and encouraged them to pursue this vision. So far, Chris and Berns is located at Maze Ayala Center Cebu and of course, the online shop. A boutique in SM City Cebu would be the next goal. Watch out for that, Cebu! 🙂
