Back when I published the announcement of NARS’ Spring Collection here, I was fortunate enough to test their products from their Spring 2012 Collection and one of them is the NARS Dark Rite Soft Shadow Pencil.
Dark Rite Soft Touch Shadow Pencil P1,550
The navy blue Soft Touch Shadow Pencil complements any warm-weather look. Use the creamy, long-wearing formula alone, as a base for layering with powder shadow, or to line and sculpt the eye.
I’ve had several experiences with NARS’ soft touch shadow pencils and Dark Rite is still of the same quality and texture – soft, glides easily, and stays in place until blended. So for a brief product rating:
Ratings out of 5 stars
Color – 3 Stars
Staying power – 3 Stars
Buildable power – 4 Stars
Blendable power 3 Stars

NARS said this was good for using as an eyeshadow, a base and eyeliner. If you have oily skin, the product would be ideal to use as an eyeliner as it tends to slide off the eyelids due to oiliness. And humidity? Yep, not ideal again. I seldom have that problem because I have dry skin and I can easily use this as an eyeshadow and base. I tried using primers also to cement the product during nightime and it could last for 4 hours the most – just enough to last you till that that early morning meal after clubbing. (swatch below)
If you want to blend Dark Rite, try nude colored powder eyeshadows or similar hues of blues and black to intensify it. Cream eyeshadow bases tend to distribute the product in patches and the product will crease after an hour or so. I highly suggest finishing off your Dark Rite eyeshadow with translucent powder to set the product in place (Laura Mercier setting powder, Makeup ForEver HD setting powder, etc). See, it might require a lot of effort to do so but the results are worth it. The color is indeed stunning! The blue tends to shimmer and reflects best during nightime. (swatch below shows product when swiped off)
Do you like soft shadow pencils as much as the regular powder eyeshadows or creams? I wouldn’t mind purchasing another shade of NARS’ soft shadow pencil in the future but would lean more into darker hues and shades. Posting soon another NARS’ product in the future. Watch out for that! Toodles!
