Circa 1900 Cebu-15

[dropcap size=”220%”]T[/dropcap]he Shrimpsky’s weren’t expecting to save old houses in Cebu. When the Primary Properties Corporation opened new doors for another food and beverage business for the owners of Canvass Bistro, they were happy to oblige. Chef Steve and Ella Shrimpski have been in the industry for several years now yet this new venture, Circa 1900, was definitely another winning formula that they knew their followers can certainly learn to love. Local restaurants in Cebu have turned old houses into new ventures, creating intimate dining settings that are as warm and welcoming as your family’s home. Built in an almost 120-year-old house, Circa 1900 offers guests that kind of historical experience in Cebu. It blends old and new Cebu to make the most of the city’s historic past. Nestled in SANJERCASVIL – Santos, Jereza, Castillo & Villa , the restaurant is situated in the old home of the Castillo’s and serves food with ingredients fresh from their mini-farm. The garden to fork kind of experience makes guests enjoy an intimate meal of healthy salads and dishes inside the restaurant’s inviting dining room or inside any of their cozy function halls.

Diners can also enjoy the restaurant’s contemporary art, old-wood design by Vintage Woodcraft Inc. and Cymru Fine Furniture & Accessories. [pullquote]“We restored nothing,” [/pullquote]said Ella Shrimpski, “and retained the color, foundation and layout.”

Circa 1900s can be spotted easily because at the end of Sanjercasvill is a huge white vintage house with a valet stand out front and patio section visible from the outside. Walk up the ground floor dining area that can seat 120 diners for functions and more and get transported back into time with photos of old Cebu. You are lucky if you also happen to spot Chef Steve whipping up his signature dishes at the open kitchen where they also display local products from The National Farming Cooperative.

Climb up to the second floor and you will be pleasantly surprised at home quaint and cozy the restaurant-piano bar is. It sets the tone for a great evening of dining and drinking. We suggest to start early at 5pm and hang around at their patio that is perfect for watching the dusk settling and sipping a few ice cold cocktails on a humid Cebu night.
