There was a moment in time (gah, I miss Whitney) when I hoarded lipsticks from every imagine lipstick seller in the Metro from Avon to MAC to Clinique. There is always something about toting around tubes in my makeup bag that makes me secure about anything else just like how I am with this tiny Seretide inhaler (hey, its purple!) to keep asthma at bay. One tube is safe while two tubes is ideal because you can never tell what could be the next emergency you find yourself into! Before you think the only emergencies I know are running into a last minute media launch or meeting a celebrity crush while he is grazing the aisles of Fully Booked, let me show you the latest lippies that I found.
Let me tell who what an “Aha!” moment it was when I ran into a tiny stall at the Asiatown IT Park Bazaar – which is organized by the way by Crimovent who by the way has been successfully running these night market for years – and met the owner of NYX Cebu. You must have had heard of several online or offline stores all over Cebu who offers NYX products for sale. Pearl, from Dollface Cosmetics, also has NYX products at her Dolled Up Makeup Studio at the Eden’s Place. Nyx Cebu has been selling NYX products for a while now and the owner has always replenished her stocks despite the constant demand of it. After a few recos from friends, I went for the NYX round lipstick in TEA ROSE at P160 and the NYX Black Label lipstick at P350.
Swatch: left – Cancun Pink, right – Tea Rose (below)
Nyx’s Round Lipstick in Tea Rose is a neutral shade of pink. I could wear this everyday except that the Tea Rose has a weird smell to it. After I dabbed it on I feel like I just smeared my lips with soap. The color also does not last that long and I’m guessing because the creaminess of its formula feels semi-heavy on your lips it does feel like its slowly slipping off on its own. I tried putting on gloss over it and it solves the color-can’t-last problem! It definitely looks good with Asian skin – yellow tones or tanned.
NYX Cancun Pink is a bright, blue-based pink (below) that is super creamy, major pigmented, and VERY gorgeous! We can almost say this could pass as a low-key and opaque dupe for MAC’s Candy Yum Yum but it is not as neon pink-ish as the real thing OR the real dupe of Nyx’s Black Label Hot Pink to MAC’s. One caveat though – be very and be extra careful when replacing these lipsticks caps back because they break easily! I was horrified when my Cancun Pink broke when I slightly nudged it with the cap. It is not like the other lipsticks that stay put when you attempt to put it back together with the bottom half. They look like they are going to melt anytime. I guess this means you can never leave them on really hot surfaces. Bad. Bad.
The Nyx Round lipsticks are the brand’s classic, all-year round tubes that you can always bring with you everyday. The Black Label is extra special though with its packaging, case and ingredients. I cannot wait to try out other shades, too!
