When orders usually have a following, the madness will begin to have method. In Ronald Villavelez’s case, he demonstrated that you don’t have to be mad when your services and creativity are in demand. You get excited and crazy overwhelmed instead! “One more week till my show!” as seen on Ronald’s Facebook statuses. “Gosh! Two days to go! Scary!”
Everyone loves Ronald Villavelez and everybody loves his clothes that is why everyone who read his status updates got caught up in the excitement and hype of the debut that took place last February 12 at the Pacific Ballroom of the Waterfront Cebu City Hotel. The strictly by-invitation affair wo-manhandled by Serendipity Inc. started off with Ronald Enrico’s collection for the younger generation called Belle Ange which Ronald worked together with long time client and friend, Abigail Bombom Ngo.
Our awww meter went off the scale as little flouncing beauties prance and parade alongside with their mothers in ball skirts and manly suits. The audience tittered as a junior Maricel Martinez-Maniquis in a pink tiered skirt smiled at the audience. And how binata Joy Woolbright Sotto’s little man is in that black suit piece!

My first encounter with Ronald Enrico was at his multiply site when I was browsing for couture gowns. And might I say I was dumbfounded! It is so hard to describe your awe when you are too full of it, I tell you. Ronald Enrico struck me as the Godfather of magic – of fairy tales – of having faith in happy endings and having faith in I Dos. Yes, he specializes in gowns and evening wear that will remind you why God molded a woman’s body to accommodate all of Ronald’s curves of art and design. “Ronald’s gowns are miracle-workers,” said Giselle Sanchez that night in Tagalog. “When you don’t have an ass, he will give you an ass. When you don’t have boobs, he will make a nice set out of his gown!”
Attention is something to be courted at. That is part of the abundance of life. Ronald Enrico attracts attention and the occassional frisson of seeing workmanship being ostentatiously displayed in tulle, chiffon and taffeta is just too much to take in you would need a heavy dose of antiobiotics. As each piece unveils itself to the audience who oohed and aaahed, overwhelm is an understatement.
Don’t you just want to get married right away!

I will forever apologize to Ronald for the super late post. I have to tell him, how can you make a fashion feature on a fashion designer whom you admire and adore so much? Hard, is an understatement. Here is his view on his Reveal collection – from Ronald Villavelez of REVEAL Fashion Show:
This 32-piece collection was completed in a span of 3 weeks (with quite a number of weddings and a slew of orders in between), officially. But I started two pieces (the beaded gray long and short ones with noodle-details) in November, with the long gown done in 2 months and the short number in 1 month. After all the sleepless nights, daily overtime until midnight (even on Sundays), and 27 workers working more than 12 hours a day, this is how the product of this hardwork came out.
The collection drew inspiration from Latin and Eastern cultures, infused with my penchant for the fantastic, modern, post-modern and graphic arts, and my personal design philosophy that clothes must be fun, approachable, romantic while concentrating on shape, form, and wearability.
This collection is my fashion fantasy in the last months while I was making it. After making and finishing a few dresses, though, I wanted to do more, but owing to time and budget constraints, this was the most that I could do.
But I think that’s how artists must continue to grow, how we are able to create within these physical limits and somehow, break them, just as how our creative imagination must long to expand and our intuition to take the creative work beyond the realm of reasons.
